Dimple Creation

What is dimple creation?

Often referred to as dimpleplasty, dimple creation is one of the latest in must-have cosmetic surgery enhancement procedures. Dr. Hakki performs the procedure in 20-30 minutes, under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The procedure requires making a slight incision on the inside of the cheek and carefully removing a piece of the cheek muscle, no more than a few millimeters in size. The cheek muscle is then attached with an absorbable suture to the under surface of the skin. The incision is finally closed with absorbable sutures that will dissolve over the next few days. Patients go home right after the procedure is completed.

What causes a dimple?
Dimples are actually caused by a defect in the muscle of the cheek (most often the buccinators muscle) where the skin is stuck to the underlying connective tissue creating a dimple in the skin.

What if the dimple is not deep enough?

In the event a patient is not completely satisfied with his or her results, dimples can be deepened, made shallower or reversed. Immediately after the surgery, the dimple is present at all times, but once the healing process is complete the dimple will appear only when smiling.

Where are the dimples placed?
Ideal dimple location is at the meeting point of an imaginary line dropped from the corner of the eyes and ta line drawn from the corner of the mouth. You can decide where your dimples should be or you can have Dr. Hakki decide with you where the ideal place for the dimples should be on your face.

How long is the healing process?
Dr. Hakki’s approach to dimple creation promotes fast healing. The procedure is done from the inside of the cheek, with no external incision or external scarring. All effort is made to minimize discomfort. The procedure is performed in our on-site certified outpatient surgical suite under local anesthesia with sedation. The incisions are closed with absorbable sutures eliminating the discomfort that accompanies suture removal. The patient is seen in follow up within the next days of the procedure with the final healing process occurring in 1-2 days. Soft food is recommended on the day of the procedure to minimize discomfort. Dr. Hakki will prescribe antibiotics and pain medication, although most patients find Tylenol sufficient.
