"making the cut" Capitol File

by Hiba Hakki 25. October 2011 18:33

in a city as much in the spotlight as washington, more men are turning toward cosmetic surgery to fight father time. by ali mcsherry

http://www.luxxery.com/news-19.aspx

From the tight-faced women of The Real Housewives of Orange County to the enhanced

bosoms of the Jersey Shore gals, women undergoing plastic surgery is more socially rampant

than ever. But what about men? While a handful of DC women, such as Fox News personality

Greta Van Susteren, are happy to discuss the various nips and tucks that keep them looking

fresh, most men tend to be mute on the topic. Of course, that doesn’t mean they aren’t undergoing

procedures all the same. Dr. Ayman Hakki, the founder and CEO of

Luxxery, a plastic-surgery office in Maryland (3010 Crain Hwy., Ste. 400, Waldorf, 301-843-

9769; luxxery.com) with a walk-in Botox boutique in Georgetown (2141 Wisconsin Ave. NW, 202-

333-9294), notes he has seen a recent increase in men seeking consultation for cosmetic surgery.

“Men go for things that make you look different without making you look too different,” Hakki

explains. The two most common procedures: eye lifts, and liposuction on their love handles.

“Men wanting to fix their ‘tired’ eyes are the biggest portion of new male clients these days,” says Chevy Chase–based plastic surgeon Dr.

Wendell Gordon Miles. “The biggest uptick I have noticed is in men moving up in their careers.

The thought of interviewing against younger competitors seems to motivate them to come in

for consultations.” The men vary in age, but, as Miles notes, they tend to be in their mid-forties

and -fifties. Hakki describes two very distinct groups who come into his office: “super jocks”

and “executive types.” The former are military men who need to pass very stringent physical

requirements to continue moving forward in their careers. “Their neck and waist measurements

need to be certain ratios or they can’t fly,” he says. “We’re talking about men who are in

great shape but still have love handles.” Alternately, the executive types get eye lifts or

facial Botox in an effort to look younger when competing for jobs. “They feel threatened by the

young bucks coming up the ranks,” Hakki says. Still, the surgeons caution that cosmetic surgery

is not a decision to be taken lightly. There are lasting  effects on both a patient’s appearance and his wallet.

Procedures can alter one’s looks for years to come, and most cost between $5,000 and $10,000—

and are not covered by health insurance. Before operating, Hakki sits down with his patients to discuss

their decision to get surgery, and occasionally, he spots red flags. For instance, he does not operate

on men who have unrealistic expectations of how an eye lift may change their lives. “The man who

tells me he is doing it because he thinks he is going to be 18 again, or because his wife is leaving and he

wants to win her back, those are the men I turn away gently,” he says. But not all men are going under the

knife to recapture their youth. For executives or members of Congress who are constantly in the

public eye, getting cosmetic surgery can be a simple public relations decision to improve their looks on

camera—that is, as long as it is done right. One local public relations maven recounts the story of a client,

a powerful executive, who had a botched eye lift— an unfortunate incident she described as unnatural

in its complete symmetry. The PR person had to advise on handling the fallout, as the surgery could

obviously not be undone. “He wore contacts, so I advised him to wear glasses until it settled in

because the lines of the glasses block the eyelids,” she remembers. Another option is to stick to non-invasive cosmetic procedures, where

local physician Dr. Philip Schoenfeld, founder and medical director of Renu Med Spa, has seen a spike in male clients. “These days, men are

entirely more comfortable with the concept,” says Schoenfeld, who adds that most come to his office with their wives and speak freely about

the procedures. Schoenfeld is also seeing more men opt for laser hair removal, a relatively quick and painless way to change ones appearance—

and a treatment that is becoming increasingly common. “Neck, back, and shoulders are the most popular places. That’s like a manicure

these days,” says Schoenfeld of the in-and-out ease of the process. “Let’s face it, hairy backs are out.” But, in general, the advice from professionals

is to keep it simple. Man or woman, the idea is to be the best version of yourself—not a completely different self altogether. CF

The Fountain

of Youth

Across the board, cosmetic surgery and minimally invasive

procedures for men increased two percent from 2009 to

2010, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

It’s a small but noteworthy jump, considering that just 10 years

ago, men hardly registered a blip on the cosmetic surgery

radar. Here, a sampling of what men are getting (re)done.

Most Popular Surgical Procedures

Nose Reshaping

Rhinoplasty can range from a slight smoothing to full

reconstruction. COST: $4,000–$8,000

Eyelid Surgery

Drooping lids and wrinkles have more men rushing to their

doctor than ever before. COST: $2,000–$4,500

Liposuction

For those last few inches of love handle that won’t disappear.

COST: $2,000–$7,500

Most Popular Minimally Invasive Procedures

Botox

The most popular injectable for men and women, Botox is

a quick fix. COST: $400–$500 per session

Laser Hair Removal

Relatively painless and fairly inexpensive, it’s a good

argument for going bare. COST: around $400 per treatment

Microdermabrasion

The benefits of heavy-duty exfoliation are obvious:

uncovering smoother, more youthful skin. No surgery

involved. COST: $75–$200

Luxxery Happy Patient Story

by Hiba Hakki 26. May 2011 09:44

Hi Everyone. We are pleased to share yet another happy patient story!  It was a privilege to be a part of Jeannette's transformation.

"I just wanted to say Thank you for Everything that you have done for me Physically and Emotionally. I must say that before I came to you for your expertise in what you do, I was LESS than eager to show any part of my body to anyone, ~ Including you. Even though I knew you were there to help me.

When I came to see you, I was just exiting a horrific divorce. It is a very difficult thing to exit, when you are being told everyday how gross your body looks by someone who supposedly loves you. Especially the one that wanted to spend life with you at one time. I am so incredibly happy that you could remove my stretch marks for me, I was so tired of being called "STRETCH" in a derogatory tone by the one who supposedly wanted to love me, and have his children. Along with I am so Grateful that you gave me a chest to be proud of, and I will never have to listen to how gross my chest looks anymore either, by ~Any~ individual.

Now I have Photographers asking me to do Bikini photo shoots for them, & Now I can.... Thanks to you and your staff.

My self esteem has risen so much since you have done this for me. I can't put into words the confidence, joy and happiness that you have restored in me. The kindness and concern that you and all of your staff have for people is wonderful. You, and your staff can make a gloomy day become so bright and happy. I think that is Awesome, *** Not everyone can do that for people. ***

Just as not all doctor's can do what you have done so perfect. You are an Excellent Surgeon Dr. Hakki. I am so glad that I chose to come to you, through word of mouth. I had no clue that you were as prestigious as you are, or that you were ever on MTV, I don't watch television much.

Also, in my opinion, The best surgeon I could've ever found!! *Thanks to my sister.* I am so very glad I decided to stick with you throughout my anticipation of getting this done.

I was so impressed by the way you take the time to really understand your patients and take your time to explain everything to them the way things need to be explained for them to know exactly what you are going to do and what to expect.

I appreciate everything that you have done for me. There are simply not enough words to show and say the gratitude that I have for what you have done for me. Much love to you from me. *Thank you so much for the happiness you have given me.*"

WashingtonExaminer.com: Palin getting ready to face Hollywood?

Palin getting ready to face Hollywood?

 http://washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/yeas-nays/2011/05/palin-getting-ready-face-hollywood

"Dancing With the Stars" pals Bristol PalinKyle Massey and his brother Chris have signed on for 10 episodes of an untitled project produced by Associated Television International for the BIO Channel. The news, announced Monday, does not come as a surprise, especially after the recent speculation over Palin possibly sprucing up her appearance.

After Tripp's mama stepped out on the red carpet for the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, many wondered if she has had some work done. While no reports have been confirmed as to whether she has had cosmetic surgery, celebrity plastic surgeon Dr.

Ayman Hakki of Luxxery, in Georgetown and Waldorf, seems to think she has.

"She looks like she had liposuction of the neck. I can tell because her cheeks are just as plump as they used to be, while her neck is much thinner. She might have also had fat transfer to her jaw-line and chin to give her more definition," Hakki explained.

While a chin implant is a possibility, it isn't necessary, he said, since you can now use your own fat to accomplish the same thing.

"She may have also had a subtle amount of fat put in her midface region because her nose looks smaller. Accentuation makes the center of your face fuller and the sides thinner," Hakki said.

We were unable to reach Palin for comment.

Luxxery: Our Latest Happy Client

by Hiba Hakki 11. March 2011 10:07

Hi everyone!

We have our newest testimonial, yet another happy client on our long list! We give our best to each and every client that comes to us. Please read about Gwen:

http://www.luxxery.com/testimonials.aspx

Hi my name is Gwen Adams. I am a 47 year-old, proud Army wife and mother of three beautiful daughters. Although beautiful, childbirth left me with an abdomen that I was unable to rid myself of; no matter the exercise. That was my story for years, until the day I met my daughters' hairstylist. I couldn't help but notice how MARVELOUS she looked! I was curious to find out what she was doing to look that way. So I asked. Her response, "The best plastic surgeon of all times…Dr. Hakki!" I knew that day, I had to meet Dr. Hakki. This is where my journey with Luxxery Medical Boutiques began.

In March 2010, I had my initial consultation with Dr. Hakki. The moment my husband and I stepped into his office, we both knew that we were in the right place. The entire staff was AWESOME! Dedicated, caring professionals that only had my best interest at heart. My husband and I found Dr. Hakki to be very knowledgeable, attentive, patient and reassuring. The procedure was explained to me in full details and no question went unanswered. There was no pressure or hidden agendas, fees etc. I felt so comfortable with Dr. Hakki, that I decided, in addition to the tummy tuck, I would have liposuction done on my arms too!

On the day of my procedure (May 2010), and enroute to Luxxery, I have to admit, I was afraid. In speaking with Carla, who's truly an angel, and Dr. Hakki, I started to get that feeling of comfort again and I had no doubt that I was in the right hands and would be taken care of.

After my procedure, I was happy it was over! While coming out of anethesia, my husband told me that I told everyone in the office how much I loved them and I really do…they are like family to me! :) They truly are concerned about their patients and want your outside beauty to shine as well as your inside beauty. This is what they have done for me. I cannot express my gratitude enough. I'm more confident and self-assured. My self-esteem has hit an all time high! I no longer have to hide behind suits! It's so refreshing to walk into a store and buy something to wear, that less than a year ago, I could only dream about. My husband, family and friends constantly give me compliments on my appearance and that makes me smile!

I have referred several of my friends and co-workers to Luxxery, and would highly recommend Dr. Hakki to anyone who is considering plastic surgery. Dr. Hakki and his staff have hearts of gold! You couldn't be in better hands!

Breast Size Matters: Luxxery Cosmetic Medical Boutique

To women in their 20s, 30s, 40s and even 50s, breast size isno small issue.  First comes thedecision to join the ranks of the “surgically endowed”, then comes the harderchoice of getting the size right.

With the abundance of preconceived negative ideas aboutelecting to have plastic surgery, to join or not to join the ranks of thesurgically endowed becomes an issue of self-esteem and plain humansexuality.  With the number ofwomen undergoing breast augmentation increasing in staggering percentages yearafter year, understanding the benefits that occur from undergoing breastaugmentation has been the subject of many studies. Numerous studies have beenconducted showing a direct correlation in the improvement of women’s selfesteem and sexual satisfaction and an absolute psychological improvementfollowing breast augmentation surgery. These studies show that patients seekingbreast augmentation merit respect, compassion and understanding instead ofdismissal and stereotyping.

Ideal patients are women who do not view plastic surgery andbreast augmentation as the end-all cure to their sexual afflictions and selfesteem.  An ideal plastic surgeon hasthe ability to screen patients with serious underlying psychological issues andelects not to operate on patients who feel that their life will completelychange after plastic surgery.  Thecombination of the ideal patient with the ideal plastic surgeon leads to whatthe doctor ordered, “Just the right size breast” from the first time.

Augmented breast have a spherical shape with an outwardprojecting areola and nipple, a rounded contour, narrow base with a wider cleavageand fullness on the top of the breast. Enhanced breast have a natural more youthful appearance when the size isright.  The one decision aboutbreast augmentation that often goes wrong is size.  A size satisfied patient is a patient who feels confidentabout her ability to evaluate her own plastic surgeon’s ability andadvice.  Factors such as the 34Cideal cup size stigma, ill advice from friends, the wrong surgeon or the wrongperception of the ideal final results can lead to dissatisfied patients. In mytwenty years of consulting patients in the field of plastic surgery, and in apractice with over two thousand satisfied breast augmentation patients, I havebeen able to accumulate a few pearls in order to help you get it right thefirst time on  “breast sizematters”:

1.    Let your body structure dictate the cup size andnot some celebrity chosen implant size. This is not a one size fits all matter.

2.    The implant size your best friend chose mightnot be the size you should blindly choose

3.    Talk with your surgeon about your goals and baseyour goals on your original breast size and shape

4.    Check out your surgeon’s own patients  beforeand after photos

5.    Check out the nuances that separate your plasticsurgeon from the next and make sure you like his philosophy towards yourprocedure, as well as his personal and professional profile

6.    Check out your surgeon’s artistic ability. Canhe or she draw or illustrate your procedure and your options or rely oncomputer generated images.  Aplastic surgeon with no artistic talent is like a painter with no brush.

7.    Get a breast sizing consultation and try ondifferent size implants or call us for our -at home pre-consultation kit-

8.    Most dissatisfied patients regret going toosmall, so whatever size you finally decide on, going a little larger will makeyou happier in the long run.

Interestingly enough, your breast implants come with amanufacturer’s warranty.  Ten yearsof financial assistance of up to $1200 for out of pocket fees and a life timeimplant replacement is the standard warranty with the two major breast implantmanufacturers.

So what’s a girl to do? Follow the above guidelines, do yourresearch, be a well informed patient, set realistic expectations and mostimportantly choose your experts wiselyand be on your way to perfect curves.

Breast Implants: Fact and Fiction

Breast Implants: Fact and Fiction

Luxxery Cosmetic Medical Boutique

For more information on Breast Augmentation, visit us at:

http://www.luxxery.com/breast-plastic-surgery/breast-augmentation.aspx

Is going bigger better?  For many women the answer to this daunting question is a whooping, yes.  Breast augmentation is surgery, and like every surgery it comes with its risks (www.fda.gov). Yet in spite of the price tag it carries, the potential complications and the possibility of revisional surgery, 95% of females who undergo breast augmentations are satisfied with their result.
In light of this vigorous demand for going bigger, I have compiled my own list of
fact and fiction on a procedure that has been with us for hundreds of years and has become a big part of our culture:

Fact: Breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic procedure in the country. It ranks as the first in the top five cosmetic surgical procedures, with liposuction ranking as second.

Fiction: Any link between breast cancer and breast implants.  A recent study in the Journal of National Cancer Institute showed that breast implants are not linked to an increased risk of breast cancer. The study also suggest that  women with breast implants are less likely to get breast cancer due to the fact that they lead a healthier way of life, a factor that helps decrease their risk of breast cancer.

Fact: Women who undergo breast augmentation experience improved sexual satisfaction. This is a phenomenon that has been reported in almost 80% of women with breast implants. A significant improvement in sexuality has also been reported in women who did not have poor sexual functions prior to having breast augmentation.

Fiction: You can’t breast feed with breast implants. As a matter of fact if you have breast implants you should be happy to know that most likely you can still breast feed your baby. Although every woman is different, you have to first see if breastfeeding works for you. If it does, then breast implants and breast feeding has a lot to do with the manner in which the implants were placed. Most plastic surgeons adopt an approach to the placement of their incision resulting in little or less nerve or duct damage keeping your chances at breast feeding at a maximum.

Fact: The FDA has put restrictions on the age minimum for breast augmentation. Taking into consideration the fact that young women’s breast continue to develop through their teens, the FDA approved breast implants for augmentation in women ages 18 and older. Another contributing factor to setting an age minimum for acquiring breast implants is the concern for the degree of maturity required to make  such an informed decision.

Fiction: Women opt to have a breast augmentation to please a partner.  Studies show that very few women opt to have a breast augmentation to attract a partner while the most common reason women choose larger breast is for the sole purpose of feeling better about themselves and their bodies.

Fact: “Gummy Bear” implants are the new more cohesive silicone gel breast implants.  Available now at your plastic surgeon’s office, these implants have just been launched by the two major breast implant manufacturers, Mentor and Allergan and have recently received FDA approval.  The gummy implants are filled with a cohesive firmer silicone gel that holds together uniformly, helps maintain the shape of the implant and has a feel similar to breast tissue.

Fiction: Breast implants last forever. Breast implants don’t last forever and if you have a breast augmentation chances are over your life time you will need additional surgeries.  Regardless of whether you opted for saline or silicone implants, many factors can play a role in your need for further surgeries.  Breast hardening, rippling, asymmetry to name a few or just plain poor cosmetic results contribute to the fact that breast implants don’t last forever.

Anecdotal fact:

Implants protect you from dying? There has been one reported case where a woman was shot in the chest but saved by her silicone implants. According to the treating doctor on the scene, the implants prevented the bullet from reaching a vital organ and causing serious damage to the victim.

Dr. Hakki and Breast Lift

by Hiba Hakki 15. January 2010 14:03

What is Breast Augmentation / Breast Enlargement ?

One of the most common cosmetic procedures performed, breast augmentation / breast enlargement enhances the size and the fullness of the breast using implants. Dr. Hakki’s results are impressive with little scarring and little down time.

Dr. Hakki and Breast Augmentation / Breast Enlargement

With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Hakki has perfected the art of breast augmentation. His breast procedures were featured several times on MTV and VH1, earning him national recognition as a leading surgeon in the Washington, D.C. area.

Reasons for Breast Augmentation / Breast Enlargement

Many women turn to breast augmentation to feel self-confident and attractive, and to fit into clothes better. Others seek augmentation because their breasts have begun to sag due to old age or childbirth. Dr. Hakki aids women in regaining the youthful perkiness and cleavage they once had. The effect of augmentation in the saggy breasts is impressive. The procedure raises the nipple, fills out the sagginess and creates significant breast projection and voluptuous cleavage.
