What Is a Plastic Surgeon?

A plastic surgeon is extensively educated and comprehensively trained in reconstructive and aesthetic (cosmetic) procedures for the face, breasts, and body. With an advanced knowledge of how to repair and improve the function as well as appearance of the human anatomy, plastic surgeons blend the worlds of science and art to better achieve balance, symmetry, and proportion for healthy, natural-looking results. While some plastic surgery procedures are primarily designed to rejuvenate a patient’s appearance by reducing signs of age or enhancing body contours, other treatments are performed to reconstruct the tissue, skin, and bones of areas affected by trauma, injury, illness, cancer, or congenital (present at birth) disorders. Plastic surgeons may specialize in particular treatments or techniques; however, they generally have overarching experience to perform many different kinds of procedures, either singularly or as combined complementary procedures.

How to Choose the Best Plastic Surgeon for You

When it comes to choosing a highly qualified plastic surgeon in Waldorf, there are several ways to lead a search for the doctor that best meets your individual needs. To make an informed decision, it is helpful to consider:

Education, Training & Credentials – A prospective surgeon’s background can typically be found on their website, which often details where they received their education and training, whether they are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), their professional memberships and affiliations, and whether they pursue continuing education in their field of practice.

Examples from Their Patient Gallery – The ability to review before-and-after photos on a plastic surgeon’s website can provide a distinct vision of their results and how outcomes they have achieved may align with your goals.

Patient Reviews – Discovering feedback via reviews from verified patients on a doctor’s website, social media accounts, and/or third-party platforms can be a valuable way to understand the level of satisfaction experienced by other patients, as well as to become generally familiar with a surgeon’s reputation and what may be expected from the practice.

Once you have narrowed down your search, the most beneficial next step is to schedule a consultation. Meeting with a plastic surgeon in-person offers real-life insight into their practice, team members, amenities, and the level of comfort, communication, and care you can expect to experience throughout your treatment. It is also a good time to evaluate your rapport and determine your confidence in the doctor’s overall approach, attentiveness, and skills.
